2022 Recruit Payton List Named Player of the Year
Very cool story about what an amazing year 2022 recruit Payton List had: 20-0 record with a 0.64 ERA and 233 strikeouts in 120 innings, including 16 in the state championship. Oh, and she hit .409 with 5 home runs.
Apparently as she walked off the mound after the 4th inning in the title game, the Public Address system played Enter Sandman and the writer talks about how appropriate that was - not only from a VT perspective, but as the warm-up song for Yankees' Hall of Fame closer Mariano Rivera.
I loved this line from the article: "Like the lyrics of Metallica's hit, the junior had opposing batters sleeping with one eye open and gripping their pillows tight the night prior to facing the Bobcats."
And there's this closing nugget:
"The most intimidating thing about List isn't the zip noise her fastball makes or the towering distance of her home runs. It's the fact that her best is yet to come. After delivering a year that those who were there to watch won't forget, she aims to be even better in 2022.
"'There are definitely some specific things I want to improve on this summer,' List said. 'Things like getting on base more and limiting the amount of walks I give up.'
You go girl!!!
